Brazil’s crude steel production rise
Brazil’s crude steel production in September was 7.6% higher year on year at 2.95 million mt against 2.75 million mt in the year-ago month, steel institute Aco Brasil said Thursday.
Production totaled 2.95 million mt in August, it said in a statement.
Production of finished steel products in September totaled 1.85 million mt, up 2.6% from 1.80 million mt last year, but down from the 1.94 million mt in August, Aco Brasil said.
Finished steel shipments to the domestic market totaled 1.50 million mt in September, up 4.9% from a year ago at 1.43 million mt.
Finished steel exports in the month totaled 1.2 million mt, valued at $595 million, a decrease of 13.7% in volume and 4% in value compared with September 2016.
Imports totaled 221,000 mt in September, up 7.3% from September 2016, valued at $215 million.
Apparent steel consumption in September was 1.8 million mt, 9.1% higher than the same period a year ago.
